CHAIRMAN'S NEWSLETTER MARCH 2024
Tyndale Choral Society creates a newsletter periodically to keep our friends, supporters and followers up-to-date with the activities and events.
Our 2024 season began in February with the best attended first rehearsal ever. 73 members turned out, including several of the new joiners who tried us out in the run-up to our Christmas concert.
This follows a 2023 season in which we managed near sell-out audiences for all three of our concerts. Many thanks for the efforts members made to ensure we had the pleasure of singing to full houses. Better still, all three concerts made a financial surplus – believed to be another first for the Society.
We’ll hear more about the financial position from Alastair ahead of our AGM – scheduled this year for 29th April. However, it’s worth noting that our increased ticket prices certainly seemed not to put off potential attendees, and contributed to a larger income pot.
Of course, outgoings were lower than they sometimes are because we didn’t need an orchestra for any of the concerts: nevertheless, we can be very pleased with these outcomes.
More importantly perhaps, the feedback from audiences (and also from Ben) on our performances was excellent.
In an earlier Newsletter, I mentioned the survey we did among new joiners in 2023. It is thanks to suggestions made in that survey that our Christmas rehearsals and concert became a ‘Come and Sing’ event, bringing us nine prospects, most of whom, as I write, have signed up for 2024.
Survey responses also urged us to be more proactive in cementing our role in the local music scene, which led to our decision to showcase the talents of some of our local young musicians in the Christmas concert. This was warmly received, and we intend to repeat the idea this year.
As we continue working on our summer programme, Songs from the Shows, I hope we will attract a new audience, in addition to our loyal following. If we can get those ‘fascinatin’ rhythms’ right, it will be a great concert.
